Come shiver and shimmy with the Happy Hips girls! Halloween costumes are optional (we’ll be wearing ours). Candy and lots of fun are guaranteed! More details later…

*October 24: HAFLAWEEN '09!! Extraordinary Venues: 200 W. Elliot Road Chapel Hill, NC. 27514. Doors open at 7:00 PM; performances start at 7:45 PM.

If you have a Sixth Sense about these things, you won't want to miss Blue Moon's annual blow-out event: HAFLAWEEN!! Now in a bigger location so that you can see even more dead people!

Performances and Halloween themed attire are encouraged but not required. Musicians are most welcome! Triangle belly dance teachers: please feel free to bring your students. All members of the Triangle belly dance community are welcome. Light refreshments will be served. No alcohol permitted on the premises.

We are asking everyone to bring a pillow or folding chair; there will be reserved seating for volunteers and other special guests.

There will be a DVD of Haflaween available for pre-purchase either when you register or at the door. No DVD orders will be taken after the event. No unauthorized videotaping will be permitted. Thank you for your cooperation regarding this.

Fees:
$8 for performers only; $12 for those 14 and older; $5 for ages 5-14; children under the age of 5 are free. (Children attending must be under their parents'/guardians' personal supervision at all times. Blue Moon does not have provisions for montoring children.) No refunds given unless event is canceled.

Our haflas have sold out in advance in the past so mark your calendars and register/prepay early to assure entry. Registrations will close once we are full.

Due to their popularity, performance slots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and each performer/troupe will be limited to one performance of 5 minutes or less; no strewn objects, live animals or open flames permitted.

Dancers! Have you been seeking inspiration and motivation? Do you wish to gain a deeper understanding of Bellydance? Improve your technique and expand your repertoire?

If so, you *must* sign up for the Mohamed Shahin workshop on October 10 and 11. Spaces will be very limited at this workshop, so sign up early to get a spot!

Mr. Shahin is an expert on all aspects of Egyptian dance, from folkloric styles to Bellydance.
He has taught and performed throughout Egypt and in nearly every continent on earth.

10am-3pm ~ Elegance and Flow. Learn graceful arm patterns, flowing footwork, and captivating combinations with a distinctly Oriental flavor. We'll enhance our elegance through the Andalusian style, which comes up frequently in modern Oriental music compositions.

Sunday, October 11
10am-3pm ~ Saidi!!! So spicy, sassy, and peppy, Saidi is an irresistible style seen frequently in bellydance shows. Learn the newest moves both with and without the Cane (assaya).

I'm finally back from an extended teaching break. I have been playing a lot and have plenty of new things to teach. I'll be doing a one-day workshop at Music Explorium in Durham/RTP on Saturday, September 26 from 2-5 pm. It's only $30 so I hope you can show up!

Arabic Drumming Workshop
Date: Saturday, September 26, 2009
Time: 2pm - 5pm
Cost: $30
Location: Music Explorium in Durham (RTP), NC
What to bring: A doumbek or riq. Several loaner drums are also available.

Description: Whether you are new to Arabic percussion or are looking for advanced techniques and stroke refinement, you'll have a great time at this workshop. We will do a short refresher on basic strokes and then work on a series of drills and rhythms which we will link together into a short composition that we'll play together towards the end of the class. Beginners will hold down the rhythm while more advanced students will play some solo riffs and variations to spice things up. Riq students are also welcome.
The doumbek, also known as Arabic tableh or darbouka, is popular throughout North Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. It is played tucked under the arm "finger style" and is used in classical, folk, and pop Arabic music, as well as to accompany belly dancers.

Belly dancers are also encouraged to take the workshop to strengthen understanding of the rhythmic foundations of dance.
