Inclusive Belly Dance Workshop: Elements of Performance

Stellaria Natural Health and Hafla in the Square are proud to present the first-ever Inclusive* Belly Dance Workshop. Join four of the most exciting performers of Hafla in the Square, each with her own unique style, as they present "Elements of Performance".

Stephanie Draus (founder/producer, Hafla in the Square): Stage Presence and Acting Technique for Dancers.
Stephanie will draw on her training in theatre and her experience as an actress and director, as well as many years of dance and performance experience, to show you how to turn on the charm and conquer the dance floor--and the audience. Uncover your dance personality, and explore new emotional depth in your dancing.
Sam Brenneman (founder/director, Smoke): A Full Picture: Makeup and Costume
Sam has many years of costuming experience under her multilayered, multicolored belt, and it shows whenever she dances! She will help you find the artist inside to create a breathtaking image onstage.
Mae Phillips (solo artist, burlesque producer, instructor at Arabesque): The Art of Posing
Mae is known for her uncanny ability to make every moment of her dance as pretty--or striking--as a picture. She'll help you make every moment of your dance picture-worthy.
Susan Warner (Real Women Bellydance): Learning to Partner
Setting aside standard improvisational dance vocabulary, any dancer can ?talk? to another dancer, during the dance, to relay important information. Susan and her dance partner Sarah will talk about how this communication can and cannot occur, and the positive and negative ways to send information to your fellow dancers. No standard improvisational dance experience is necessary.

As with every Hafla in the Square event, this workshop is open to dancers of all genres, styles, ages, sizes, skill & experience levels. If you love the dance, and love learning in a warm and supportive environment, come learn with us!

*We use the term "Inclusive" because we embrace all styles and genres of belly dance. We honor the diversity of the dance, and avoid a false hierarchy of styles within the dance. We teach techniques that have value for all dancers, regardless of style.
